GSP trails to Mt.
Malicboy for Tree Planting
Ladies set their works at hands
aside for a while, carried shovels and seedlings, and hiked out to green up the
environment.
As part of the Girl Scouts of the
Philippines 9GSP) Week, 12 seniors scout from Cavite National Science High
School linked with the other GSP participants from the Southern Luzon Region
and trailed up to the peak of Mt. Malicboy to participate in the project, “Pista
ng Kagubatan”, Pagbilao, Quezon, Sept. 24.
The said activity, with the theme “Small
Actions, Big Changes”, was intended to help in controlling the flourishing
effects of climate change through planting trees.
Furthermore, the provincial and local
government unit of Quezon, led by Gov. David Suarez, supported the GSP council
in conducting this climate change project.
Also, on behalf of the council
executive, Ms. Gloria Calotes, assistant national executive director of GSP,
graced with her presence to encourage the girl scouts to support the cause for
the environment. The site at the peak of Mt. Malicboy is protected by the
Department of Environmental and Natural Resources (DENR) and keepers and
employers of DENR were assigned to take care of the planted seedlings until
they grow as trees.
GSP upholds investiture/rededication
Aiming for another successful GSP Camp this year with the
theme “Small Actions, Big Changes” and a sub-them “Ensure Environmental
Sustainability”, the camp started with the GSP Investiture of Rededication
wherein several teachers, sponsors, parents, female students, our dearest
principal and guest speaker gathered at the Cavite National Science High School
(CNSHS) multi-purpose hall, October 24.
The program of the Girl Scouts was started, headed by Eulene
Albert F. Geronimo, GSP Chairman and with the guidance of Mrs. Mildred C.
Atendido, GSP coordinator of the said school.
Starting from the
warm greetings of Hon. Jasmine Angelli M. Maligya, vice mayor of Magallanes and
the Investing Officer, she gave the students inspiring words that really touched
the hearts of everyone. She said that the youth will be the leaders of the next
generation and is responsible for the future. Changes in the environment were
also given importance since all of us are really part of these.
This was a good start of the many activities that will be
done within the 2-day encampment of Girl Scouts.
